Our Story: Why We Founded the Arvind Foundation

At Arvind, giving back has never been a separate act—it’s always been part of how we grow. Long before CSR became a defined practice, the Lalbhai family believed that business must move in step with society, and that true progress means leaving no one behind.

From the 1800s onward, every enterprise began not just with a business idea, but with a responsibility to the people around it. Schools, health centres, water systems, and community programs were often built alongside factories—because thriving communities were seen not as beneficiaries, but as essential partners.

This belief gave rise to the Arvind Foundation—a dedicated platform to deepen our social impact, respond to evolving challenges, and build sustainable, inclusive futures. Guided by trust, proximity, and long-term commitment, the Foundation works across education, environment, livelihoods, and culture—always grounded in one idea: that the health of our communities shapes the health of our business, and of our society at large.

Our CSR Framework

Our initiatives are designed based on a strategic framework that ensures we build sustainable and self-sufficient communities over time. This approach is divided into three stages:

Long-Term 
(> 6 years)

Large-scale initiatives that focus on transforming communities for the future, ensuring lasting impact and sustainability.

Medium-Term 
(3-6 years)

Programs that address intermediate challenges, helping communities to gradually become self-sufficient.

Short-Term 
(< 3 years)

Quick, targeted interventions that provide immediate relief and lay the groundwork for long-term development.

Through this model, we aim to create self-reliant communities, empowering them to continue growing without needing external support. As one community becomes sustainable, we move on to the next, ensuring that our work is never-ending and continues to create change where it’s needed most.
